Or maybe I just need some of them giant headphones.
People, this isn't the romper room
I like Panera and Starbucks for doing paperwork, but I think they could get even more business if they had a quieter section (at least at the larger locations). I've actually been to a few Starbuckses and a few Panerae where one section had more studying-looking desks and library-type lighting and the other had restaurant-type lighting and seating, but there wasn't a sign, and people don't pick up on social cues, so there were still a good number of people hooting and hollering in the section that was mostly people quietly working. It would be so awesome if there was a section with a sign indicating that it was a quiet area. I mean, they have free wi-fi and stuff; I assume they want to drum up the business of paperwork-doing people, and this would be a way to do it.
Or maybe I just need some of them giant headphones.

Simple fix: Move to West Roxbury. The Panera here is pretty quiet, except for the semi-intrusive background music. That's why I'm here right now.
How do you know that wasn't the one I was in?
And do I have to move there to go to the Panera there?
